At the heart of Viridian Nutrition is a philosophy that cares for the natural products movement supporting organic growing, the essential nature of health and whole food stores, the respectful preservation of ancient health traditions and the sensitive introduction of innovative complementary health foods, supplements and concepts.”
Viridian Nutrition : special and specialist
Viridian Nutrition was founded in 1999 in Northamptonshire, United Kingdom, by Cheryl Thallon. Vegetarian since she was 18, Cheryl started her career in the natural products industry working in health food stores from the age of 21. After training in publishing, Cheryl was made editor of Natural Food Trader magazine in 1988 where she remained for three years, visiting and reporting on health food stores and natural product supply companies around the world. This broad experience of the entire natural products industry led to a specialisation into food supplements when in 1991 she joined Solgar Vitamins - an American supplement company - first as Marketing Director and then as UK Managing Director.
Previously a family-owned and managed company, Solgar Vitamins, was sold to a large pharmaceutical corporation in early 1999. At this point, Cheryl left to set up Viridian Nutrition, basing the company on the fundamental principles of purity, environment and charity. Surrounding herself with qualified and expert technical advisors, Viridian Nutrition launched in December 1999 with just 24 products. The company now offers sales, technical and marketing expertise to support more than 180 products and is available in more than a dozen countries.
Viridian Nutrition : purity matters
Did you know that 50% of a tablet is made up of glues, known as binders, to hold the tablet together? For most people this is just an irritating fact, but for people who are hyper allergenic, this can be a real issue. Would you add magnesium stearate, stearic acid, shellac, talc or colourings to your meal, in the way you’d sprinkle over salt or pepper? Neither would Viridian Nutrition. By making Viridian capsules, liquids and powders as pure and simple as possible, avoiding all the nasties, Viridian have shown that it is possible to make a range of nutritional supplements acceptable for the majority of people.

Viridian Nutrition: the fundamentals
Nutrition is the fundamental cornerstone to human health. Every single reaction, biochemical pathway, and physiological event that takes place in our bodies, requires nutrients at some stage. An elaborate and perfectly organised sequence of vitamins, minerals, fats, and amino acids, allow our bodies to function on a day to day basis. However, when our needs in this area are not met, things can quickly begin to go awry. Therefore it is essential that we pay serious attention to our daily diet. A diet based around whole foods, fruits vegetables, and the right types of fats can be the greatest health insurance we can have. Nutritional supplementation is also a practical tool. It is a sad fact that in today’s modern world, we cannot rely 100% upon the quality and nutrient density of even the best fresh produce, due to intensive farming, depleted soils and environmental factors. Coupled with this, we have far greater physical demands placed upon us, meaning that very often our requirements for specific nutrients are higher than they ever have been if we are able to cope physiologically. Nutritional supplements, when used correctly can be a valuable tool in addressing such issues.
Government surveys have identified the following groups of people as being at especial risk from low vitamin and mineral intakes: highly active people, menstruating women, vegetarians and vegans, the elderly, slimmers, pregnant and breast-feeding women, smokers, drinkers and faddy eaters.
Viridian Nutrition : feeling good and looking younger Everyone wants softer, smoother skin and a clearer, younger-looking complexion. We’d all like naturally healthy, shiny hair and strong, pliable nails. If you are genetically fortunate you will have all this and more, for the rest of us mortals, we need to take great care in our lifestyle choices – and maybe a few nutritional supplements. Nutritional supplements do not replace the need for plenty of water, a good balanced diet and regular exercise, but can offer a daily guaranteed amount of the key hair, skin and nail nourishing nutrients. Keep them next to your moisturiser and use them daily as part of your beauty routine – and see the difference.
Look for supplements that have been developed specifically to complement a daily topical beauty routine. An ideal daily formula includes vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, MSM, silica, antioxidants and essential fatty acids to help protect against the damaging effects of free radicals, and guarantee adequate levels of the building blocks of healthy skin, hair and nails.
Additional youth-boosting supplements for skin include Pycnogenol which has been the subject of more than 200 clinical studies showing benefits as diverse as heart health to age-spots.
The latest supplement in wrinkle-reduction is Hyaluronic Acid. HA is included as a topical skin-booster in a number of best-selling beauty products. Taken internally, as a daily capsule, it works as ‘nature’s moisturiser’, plumping out skin wrinkles and giving skin a healthy tautness. The role of essential fatty acids (EFAs) cannot be overstated in glossy hair and blemish-free, bright and healthy skin. Our obsession with fat-free diets has left many people with chronic deficiencies in essential fatty acids, leading to various symptoms including dry, flaky skin, eczema, excessive wrinkling, brittle nails and dry, flyaway hair.

Viridian is a big-hearted company, committed to creating a nutritional supplement range with integrity, quality and innovation. How does Viridian decide which charities to donate to? Simply, Viridian doesn’t decide, we leave that to their stockists. Each year, Viridian send a voting form to all their health store stockists and ask them to nominate and vote for their favourite charities. The only stipulation is that 40% goes to children’s charities and 40% to environmental charities, 20% can then go to a combination of other charities. All charities must be properly registered and Viridian
Nutrition check they have no involvement in animal research.
Viridian Nutrition : what on Earth is an ethical vitamin? Viridian Nutrition is the leading brand of ethical vitamins, but what does this mean?
